Description
Ward was selected to be the Design/Build contractor for this K-8, 3 story charter school which features the architect's signature day lighting environment and large classrooms. The primary challenge was the schedule: we had to complete the design of a new 40,000 SF building on a one acre site in five months, get a permit in two months and construct in eight months. Ward Construction gave a guaranteed maximum price based on basic programming information with no plans or specs. Another unique challenge was the very small site, as this reduced area required imaginative design such as putting the water retention on the roof. The project consisted of limited site work including a parking lot, site concrete, play areas, landscaping, and site utilities. The building was constructed with masonry bearing walls, steel roof and floor structure, aluminum windows, drywall partitions, TPO roof membrane, translucent wall panels, elevator, mechanical and electrical.
